What to Know Before Watching Season 2 of Peacock’s Twisted Metal

Source: Gamereactor

As explained in the Season 1 Easter egg post, the second season of streaming service Peacock’s Twisted Metal series will release 31 July 2025. Although that post did cover a multitude of plot points and key details that will surely help elucidate what the upcoming season will deliver, there are other considerations to mind. Notably, these points boil down to the first season’s ending, second season’s tournament roster and what is known presently about the forthcoming episodes. The essence of all these components are included below, so read on to learn more about what to expect from this lovably zany production!

Spoiler Warning: This post contains series as well as game spoilers arranged by episode, so beware if you have neither watched nor played.

Update (28 July 2025): New details from the studio itself surrounding the second season have emerged, both confirming certain theories and providing new information. One reveal regards Raven in that the woman shown in the new trailers is, in fact, the real Raven, with Campbell’s version being one of many Ravens. This incarnation promises to offer references to the games fans will recognize instantly, and, despite appearing seemingly as a contestant, still wants John to win so she can “collect on Calypso’s fabulous prize.” (NBC/Peacock) Intriguingly, Campbell’s Raven will also be be part of the tournament, which takes inspiration Squid Game and Cobra Kai alike (ComicBook), as her own person, as will some Holy Men gang members (despite Jason Mantzoukas’ Preacher not appearing after having been included on Calypso’s board at the end of the first season). (Screen Rant)

Additionally, some new light has been shed on other characters, including Mr. Grimm having a unique backstory, Mayhem being an “apo baby,” or a young person who “grew up in the apocalypse and found a life,” and Vermin taking inspiration from Twisted Metal 4‘s Goggle Eyes. Similar to Mr. Grimm, Axel has a past independent of the games that led him to this point, although, like the other characters, copious references are planned. (Screen Rant

Moreover, when they are not competing in the tournament, each participant will return to their temporary abode: an abandoned high school repurposed into dormitories with a mechanic garage, which works on the more than three dozen new cars built for this season, that equates to this production’s equivalent of a game hub world, where characters reside between levels. (Screen Rant)

Perhaps most exciting of all today’s revelations is the fact 1990s and 2000s music will continue to dominate the soundtrack this season. With smashes like DMX’s 1998 “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” set to play, and the possibility of tracks being selected meticulously to suit the action at hand, such as a mentioned heist will occur ostensibly in Diesel City for at least part of one episode. With this new information, Season 2 is shaping up to be even more enthralling. Should any additional details surface between now and 31 July, this post will be updated accordingly.

Season 1 Ending

After John traversed the Divided States of America to deliver to Raven in New San Francisco her requested package from Calypso in New Chicago, he is granted the citizenship he was promised. Unfortunately for him, he is barred from including Quiet in his new life. When he tries to rescind his interest in New San Francisco and instead leave with Quiet, she incapacitates him, which results in both him being taken inside for care and her driving away. Months later, Raven reveals to John he grew up in New San Francisco, showing him his family’s exact house as proof. Right after, however, she places him at gunpoint, explaining he will enter the forthcoming Twisted Metal tournament, and that he will be killed if he does not accept. John agrees reluctantly, while Quiet is shown to have been helping local people in need by stealing goods from forces and given them to those who most require them. Before the credits roll, Calypso, displays some of the tournament contestants on a board, with John, Sweet Tooth and others being pinned to it. The first season then ends, leaving viewers to ponder the possibilities of the second.

Season 2 Tournament Roster

One of the commonest questions asked about the upcoming season is some variant of, “Who will compete in the Twisted Metal tournament in Season 2?” While the full roster has yet to be released (and may well not be until the new episodes premiere), scenes from the first season’s ending as well as the new trailers (see below) help provide an idea of who will be there. (Indeed, the latest, and likely last, trailer names several participants.) So, without further ado, here is the list of known tournament competitors:

  • John Doe — The affable, amicable, amnesiac (albeit slightly less than before) protagonist will return to compete in the Twisted Metal Tournament. The trailers suggest he succeeds at regrouping with Quiet so as to compete together.
  • Quiet — The co-protagonist with what becomes an increasingly ironic moniker also returns and is shown fighting with John, much like they did in the previous season.
  • Sweet Tooth — If there is one constant in Twisted Metal, it is that Sweet Tooth is virtually guaranteed to be in each entry. Sure enough, everyone’s favorite crazed clown will be back, fighting with Stu, the good-intentioned man who tends to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • Stu — The man, the myth, the legend… Stu! He will compete in the tournament with Sweet Tooth regardless of his preferences….
  • Dollface —John’s sister looks like she will be a major fixture of the second season, working with her brother, Quiet and possibly Mayhem (see below). Her exact reason for doing so, however, is still unclear.
  • Mayhem — A new character to this show and franchise alike, Mayhem appears to be deceptively innocuous teenage girl who has few distinguish features aside from her denim jacket and flower necklace. It is possible she is affiliated in some way with Dollface’s Dolls gang as she is shown in the newest trailer standing beside Dollface, Quiet and John, which may also suggest something of an alliance.
  • Raven — Perhaps the most enigmatic of all these characters, Raven — not the one portrayed by Scream star Neve Campbell last season but a completely new iteration —will be part of the tournament. Her exact role outside the crux of this new season, though, is not quite known since the number of questions surrounding the fact there are two Ravens presently only increase as the release date approaches.
  • Mr. Grimm — Ostensibly taking inspiration from the earlier franchise incarnations of this character, Mr. Grimm will compete clad in his signature leather and on his black motorcyle. Despite his rather mortal appearance, at least under his skull-painted helmet, he appears to steal someone’s life in one of the new trailers, suggesting supernatural powers.
  • Axel — Fan favorite Axel has now received his own dialogue, as demonstrated by his threat to John in the latest trailer. One significant difference between this and the game versions, however, is that here he can attach to and detach from his two giant wheels, unlike the perennial stint he spends locked into place in the rest of the franchise.
  • Vermin — With the same name as the yellow Ford Econoline introduced in the 2012 reboot, Vermin looks covered in dirt and stricken with different physical afflictions, not unlike a real rat. Intriguingly, the Vermin vehicle in the 2012 game has no official driver, nor is there any character with this name in any of the games. As such, she is technically a new character, and her allegiance is unknown at this time.
  • Calypso — Although he is the host of the Twisted Metal contest instead of a participant, Calypso will be a central character in the new season, as shown in all recent trailers. His design is based largely on the 2012 version of his character, who reigns supreme from a skyscaper, inside which he imprisons all previous contestants who attempted to depose him. The extent of his powers in this series remains to be confirmed, but, if the fact he changed the time of day in the first full clip taken from the forthcoming season is any indication, he is not to be underestimated.

Season 2 Facts (Confirmed and Speculated)

With virtually any new release comes ideas, concepts and conjecture from fans. Twisted Metal is no different, and it has its fair share of postulations alongside its confirmations. Below are some of the most frequently cited “facts”:

  • Time Jump —There is a confirmed time jump. On 24 July 2025, the cast confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con 2025 (SDCC 2025) the second season will open with a seven-year time jump having taken place between then and the end of the first season. Moreover, Dollface and the Dolls play a prominent role in continuing the work Quiet started after John started his new life in New San Francisco.
  • A Known Wish — At least one of the tournament contestants’ wishes is known. In the latest trailer, Quiet says it would be possible to wish for all the walls to come down if “we” win. The walls refer to those which house the people to whom she is shown giving what she steals from area patrols and forces at the end of the first season. The “we,” however, is not entirely certain but refers likely at least to both her and John. Depending on their relationships with the other participants, others may be included, such as Dollface and/or Mayhem. Additionally, this type of group wish would mark the first of its kind since Carl and Jamie Roberts did so in the original game.
  • Multiple Ravens — One fan theory relates to the fact there are, as of now, two known Ravens in this show: one in the first season and another in the new episodes. This theory proposes there are multiple individuals around the country titled “Raven,” all of whom oversee to some extent the local or regional districts to which they are assigned. Viewers will surely find out what becomes of this possibility when John and Quiet encounter and learn about as much.
  • ’90s and ’00s Music — If the new trailers, which include Rob Zombie’s 1998 “Dragula” and Ludacris’ 2001 “Move,” are any collective indication, this coming season’s soundtrack will consist largely of songs from the 1990s and 2000s

Conclusion

Twisted Metal‘s first season ended explosively, and the second looks to ramp up the stakes. Since Season 2 is not yet ready for viewing, some conjecture is included alongside confirmed details. By taking into consideration last season’s ending, the new one’s tournament roster and circulating “facts,” though, viewers can prepare effectively for the action, suspense and wild humor sure to soon unfold.
